Hello, Hello, Hello! How are you? This is a much delayed entry for those who are immersing themselves in the summer fun; for those who are in the midst of anticipating the JUPAS offer; for those awaiting HKCEE results and for those who still remember Miss Lam does have a blog somewhere... This year, I was busy doing my translation project which was a double-credit module in my MA course. I also worked part-time for my alma mater - the most 'sought-after' Sixth Form College in town. Since submitting the project in late April, I have been feeling disoriented because it seems it is the first time my life is not crammed with student's work or assignments and projects to be completed. Even if I still go to police stations as their part-time interpreter and play tennis and attend Putonghua course as usual, there is yet a missing-piece in my life. After a month or so, I have gradually got used to the leisurely lifestyle and started to get myself ready for embracing a new phase of my life. For those who have known me well, must be well realised that I have been a Police Part-time Interpreter for nearly two and a half years. At the end of last December, the Police Force recruited full-time Police Translation Officers under civil servant openings. After some interviews and procedures, I have been offered to be one of the members of the Translation Team in the Force. I will report duty at the end of August. Though the salary is yet to be thrilled about compared with that when I was a teacher, it is no doubt a moment of CHANGE! I remember when I worked 24-7 as an English teacher, I still disciplined myself to write a blog entry every week, if not every day. It is quite sarcastic that when I am now free - I am literally 'free' - from workload and commitment to work, I do not even write an entry in 8 months' time! My friends asked me whether I have abandoned my blog (I did get stuck a bit when I logged myself in just now!) Maybe it's time to re-connect myself to my old students because I still wonder how they have been doing. I am wondering the number of people who do 'xanga-ing' must be far less than those who do 'facebook-ing'. Anyhow, I still hope that someone will catch a glimpse of my blog whenever dropping by. All the best! Miss Lam |
